Equipped with the latest colour Doppler and 3D 4D scanner, Cherish performs error free transvaginal and abdominal ultrasonography on patients. The process helps detect the growth of the follicle and the thickness of endometrium. If any tumour or cyst is present in the uterus and ovaries, they can also be detected by this method. Antral Follicle Count (AFC), which determines a woman's ovarian reserve or fertility potential, can be measured and counted in each ovary by transvaginal scanning.
At Cherish, we also offer intrauterine insemination (IUI), in which the processed semen is directly placed into the uterus of a female with the help of a catheter. The process is effective in cases of male factor infertility, unexplained infertility, endometriosis, anovulatory infertility etc.
We offer IVF or in vitro fertilization, commonly known as the Test Tube Baby procedure. It is the most common procedure in fertility treatment. In IVF, mature eggs are taken out from the ovaries of the female and fertilized with the sperms of the male in the laboratory. The fertilized eggs (zygotes) are then cultured to grow into embryos, one of which is then transferred to the uterus of the female. For effective results, Cherish is also equipped with advanced equipment and a state-of-art culture lab.
ICSI is an advanced form of IVF. A delicate process, it effectively boosts fertilization rate for patients with severe male factor infertility. ICSI involves injecting a single sperm into each egg with the help of a special instrument called ‘Micromanipulator’. CHERISH is the only infertility clinic in Karnataka, and only the second in southern India, to have the Micromanipulator attached with Oosight as well as Laser also.
At Cherish we use the OOSIGHT to observe and assess the egg’s chromosome spindle (GRADING) and also avoid damage to spindle and chromosomes during the ICSI procedure. Thus it can help us to pick out and transfer only the healthier Embryos, thereby increasing the fertilization rates and pregnancy outcomes mainly for women with less number of Eggs, in older women and those with previous failed IVF / ICSI.
Cherish also offers the PESA and TESA services in which sperms from men with obstructive azoospermia can be removed from the epididymis or the testis and used to fertilize eggs by the ICSI method.
At Cherish we have a comprehensive facility for ovum and embryo donation for patients who cannot produce eggs or sperms required to conceive. In some cases, the ovaries fail to produce eggs and the only option to conceiving is using eggs donated by another woman. Using donated ovum also eliminates chances of genetic diseases that pass on from mother to child. Similarily, if it becomes impossible to collect sperm even from testes in an azoospermic male, donated sperms have to be made use of. In certain cases both the sperms and ova from a third person are required for pregnancy. In this case, embryos donated by other couples are transferred into the uterus of the female patient.
In IVF, embryos are implanted into the uterus of the female, two to three days after fertilization. However, Blastocyst Culture allows us to grow the embryos up to five days in the laboratory, inside a Tri Gas Incubator till it reaches the blastocyst stage, provided we have enough number of embryos. After which the doctor can select the most suitable embryos for implantation. This not only lessens the number of embryos transferred into the uterus, but the chances of conceiving are also increased. Blastocyst Culture also significantly decreases the risk of high order multiple pregnancies.
Implementing hi-end medical technology, at Cherish we use laser beam to help the embryo hatch out of its shell. Before implantation, the embryo has to hatch out of its protective shell – zona pellucida. Otherwise the embryo will fail to implant itself in the uterus of the mother and pregnancy would fail. Laser Assisted Hatching is highly useful in cases of advanced maternal age, women with a thick zona, and in women with repeated IVF failures.
One can also avail the facility of Sperm Freezing and Embryo Freezing at our clinic. The process is also known as Cyropreservation. The preservation of sperm and embryos can be achieved with the use of a technique called slow freezing. This process cools the sperm and embryos very slowly to sub zero temperatures. Cyropreservation is used to store semen and embryos for an indefinite period. It is typically effective if men face a possibility of sterilization due to vasectomy, prostate or testicular surgery, radiation or chemotherapy etc. At times semen is also frozen prior to IVF as back up, incase of difficulty in semen collection on the day of oocyte retrieval. Ejaculated epididymal and testicular tissue can also be cryopreserved.Freezing of embryos saves them for future use without the necessity of another egg collection.
Available at Cherish, vitrification is one of the latest advancements in fertility treatment. The process refers to the freezing of eggs (also embryos) to store them for an indefinite period. Unlike sperms, unfertilized ova cannot be stored using the slow freezing technique. Rather, vitrification works by using higher concentrations of cryoprotectants that ensure much faster cooling rates, and without the formation of ice crystals. It is useful for women who face the possibility of sterilization in future.
